| "My involvement as president of the Clay County Chapter of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association has shown me how commodity organizations work, and that membership in an organization gives you representation in St. Paul and Washington, D.C. Knowing that and being a wheat grower are the reasons I recently joined the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers," says Paul.
An NDSU graduate with a degree in agronomy, Paul worked for CENTROL, Inc. in Park River, N.D., for four years before returning to the family farm in 1989 after his dad retired.
Paul and his wife, Sherri, have three children: Scott, seven; Nicole, five; and Dakota, two. Paul grows wheat, barley, soybeans, corn and sugarbeets.
He and his older brother, Larry, farm separately but share labor and equipment. Their younger brother, Mark, will help out part time starting this spring.
Marketing is a significant priority in Paul's farming operation. He charts the markets daily, graphs them and watches for trends. He is involved with the Adult Farm Management Program and follows several weekly summaries of the market newsletters. Paul has DTN and watches the MAWG's daily E-Mail fairly regularly.
The last few years Paul has landed among the top ten of Farm Futures Magazine's national farm management contest, placing as high as third two years ago.
Paul believes the 1995 Farm Bill, Canadian imports and research are priorities for the MAWG.
