| On this page is a graph which breaks down research projects at the University of Minnesota, funded by wheat checkoff dollars administered by the Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council from 1980 to 1994.
Wheat research direction has been assisted greatly by the Wheat Research and Communications Committee (WRCC), formed two years ago to focus on three objectives:
* Identify research needs for wheat growers to improve their production systems.
* Communicate research information and other opportunities to wheat growers.
* Develop a team approach to find the information that really matters.
A cross-section of wheat industry members volunteer their time to serve on the WRCC. Currently, they are: Tom Harris, Ciba-Geigy; Bob Knudson, AgriPro Seed; Mike Hergert, KKXL 1440 AM Radio; Ray Allmaras, USDA, U of MN; Phil Larson, U of MN; Carlyle Holen, MN Extension Service; John Wiersma, NW Experiment Station, Crookston; and Paul Gregor, St. Hilaire Elevator. Growers who serve are Tom Anderson, Barnsville; Jerry Kruger, Warren; Scott Balstad, Fosston; Bruce Hamnes, Stephen; and Ellsworth Danielson, Fosston.
These individuals who serve on the WRCC review and evaluate research proposals, and make funding recommendations to the Council.
You can help the Council and the WRCC by suggesting a production problem or opportunity that may be addressed by checkoff-funded research.
I encourage you to do this by contacting any of the above WRCC members or Dave Torgerson, executive director of the Minnesota Wheat Council, at 1-800-242-6118.
