Summer field days are an excellent way to learn about new research advancements and to network with crop scientists and crop protection product specialists. Mark these ag research field days on your calendar:

June 16
Central Grasslands Research Extension Center, Streeter, ND, 6 pm (free supper to follow). Located 11 mi. S of I-94, five mi W and 1/4 mi. S. Opening remarks by new NDSU President Joseph Chapman. Focus is on pasture, rangeland issues. More info (701) 424-3606.

June 17
Novartis Helix Plot Tour (Helix canola seed treatment system), Langdon, ND. 10:30 a.m - 1 p.m. (meal served following tour).

June 29
U of M canola small plot tours, Kennedy, MN. 10 a.m. Rynning Farm, county road 7. Canola Variety Trials, Seed Treatment Trial, and Alternative Crops. Tour conducted by the University of Minnesota. Contact Dr. Erv Oelke.
NDSU Agronomy Seed Farm
, one mi. S of Casselton and one mi. W on frontage road which parallels I-94 on north side. Field day events begin at 8:30 am. Varietal plot tour focus on small grains, weed control and mechanized technology. Noon luncheon. More info (701) 347-4743.

July 6
Hettinger Research Extension Center field day, 3 pm MDT, and a small grains tour at 5 pm MDT. Located on west edge of Hettinger along U.S. Hwy 12. Includes discussion of alternative crops, and a likely weed-control tour that day. Off-station tours also scheduled for mid-summer. More info (701) 567-4323.

July 7
Dickinson Research Extension Center field day will begin early, with sunrise tour of grounds focusing on Outdoor Wildlife Learning Sites (OWLS) project. Center located about 3/4 mi. N of I-94, northwest Dickinson. Eastbound traffic take Exit 59, westbound traffic take Exit 62. Agronomy tours throughout the day. Morning tours feature small grain varieties, afternoon tour topics include making crop production profitable, replacing wheat-fallow with intensive cropping systems, and integrated crop-livestock systems. Lunch served. Tour of station’s ranch headquarters at Manning will begin at 9 am MDT. Transportation to the site and lunch will be provided. Horticulture tour at 3:30 pm MDT. July 8

Williston Research Extension Center field day
, beginning 8:30 am CDT. Morning and afternoon plot tours. Located 4½ miles W of Williston on U.S. Hwy 2. Morning tours likely to focus on small grain varieties, weed control and horticulture. Following a noon luncheon, afternoon tours to include discussion on oilseed and alternative crops. More info, call (701) 774-4315.

July 13
Victoria Seed, Coleharbor, ND, AgriPro - Zeneca field day, 5:30 pm
Carrington Research Extension Center field day
, morning tours begin at 9:30 am. Afternoon tours at 1:15 pm will follow a sponsored noon lunch. Both morning and afternoon tours are subject-matter specific. Tentative topics includecereal and broadleaf crop variety reviews, crop pest management and control, soil and water management, crop production practices, and beef and bison research review. July 14
North Central Research Extension Center, Minot, located one mi. S of Minot on U.S. Hwy 83, begins at 9 am. Tour topics to include cereal grain varieties, alternative crops, oilseeds and weed control. Pest-management clinic will be conducted throughout the morning. Following a noon luncheon, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house will take place at the new Technology Transfer Center. July 15
Beyer Seed Farm, Kent, MN, AgriPro - Zeneca field day, 5:30 pm
Langdon Research Extension Center
, located one mile east of Langdon, begins at 8:30 am. Morning tour will focus on small grain production issues. Following a sponsored lunch, afternoon tour will involve discussion of oil and broadleaf crop issues. More info (701) 256-2582.

July 16
Tour of the Minnesota Canola Production Center, Roseau, MN. Small plot tour in the morning at 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 at the Magnusson Farm, one mile north of Hwy 11 and 1.5 miles west of Hwy 310. Centre tour in the afternoon. Coomplimentary pig roast will begin at noon, followed by a brief update on canola issues and ending with guided tours of the Centre. Contact eoelken@extension.umn.edu

Eastern Ag Research Center
, Sidney, MT, located one mile north of Sidney on U.S. Hwy 200, beginning at 8:30 am MDT. Tours will run from 9 am to noon MDT and a sponsored lunch will follow. Oakes irrigation research site, located about 4.5 mi. S of Oakes on Hwy 1. Activities tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:30 am and conclude by 4 pm with noon luncheon. Morning tour to include dry bean and soybean issues. Afternoon tours to focus on vegetable crops. More info (701) 742-2189.
