WHAT’S AHEAD FOR WHEAT VARIETY DEVELOPMENT IN MINNESOTA

Dr. Jim Anderson, University of Minnesota Wheat Breeder

Dr. Jim Anderson is Minnesota’s new wheat breeder. This will be a great opportunity for growers to get to know Dr. Anderson and to provide him with input into what they would like to see in new varieties and how they rank the importance of various traits they consider when choosing a variety. Dr. Anderson will also present information on:

1) Minnesota’s Wheat Breeding program and plans for the future; 2) Minnesota’s scab resistance breeding effort; 3) DNA marker applications in breeding for scab resistance and other traits; and 4) Outlook for future wheat variety releases.

Growers are encouraged to ask questions and provide input into what wheat traits are important on their farms and in their markets.
