NAWG announces new director of government relations
Wayne Hammon has been named new director of government relations for the National Association of Wheat Growers. Hammon comes to NAWG from Sen. Larry Craig’s (R-ID) office, where Hammon has served for over two years as a legislative assistant. Many of the issues that he worked on for Sen. Craig included agriculture and appropriations, both of which will be beneficial to helping NAWG achieve its legislative objectives. Hammon began his Capitol Hill career as a legislative correspondent for Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-UT). Prior to coming to DC, Hammon received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Public Policy from Brigham Young University. Producers who are members of their state wheat associations automatically are members of the NAWG.

Drawing for R72 Gleaner lease May 21 on RRFN

The drawing for a 100-hour lease on an R72 Gleaner combine during the 1999 harvest, courtesy of AGCO, will be announced on the air of the Red River Farm Network on Friday, May 21. (If you miss it, and you win, don’t worry. We’ll let you know). To be eligible for the drawing, simply become a member, or renew your membership, in the North Dakota Grain Growers Association or the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers.

The new R72 Gleaner combine in the photo was displayed at the Small Grains and Potato Expo held in the Fargodome last winter. The following AGCO Gleaner dealers participated with the MAWG and NDGGA in the display: Central Sales, Jamestown, ND; Green’s Implement, Hankinson, ND; Hurtt Equipment, Hoople, ND; and Warren Implement, Sheyenne, ND.

Two drawings were held at the conclusion of the Expo from the names of those who joined or renewed their memberships in MAWG or NDGGA during the show. Prizes were a toy Gleaner R62 combine, donated by the earlier mentioned participating AGCO Gleaner Dealers; and a Gleaner 75th Anniversary commemorative leather jacket, donated by the AGCO Corporation. The toy combine went to Mark Tungseth, Drayton, ND; and the jacket to Dennis Hansbargen, Breckenridge, MN.
