Varieties Omitted from Grain Yield Comparison

An article in the March, 2003 Prairie Grains (pages 41-42) compared the disease reactions and agronomic characteristics of 17 spring wheat varieties in two tables.  A third grain yield table listed 12 varieties, inadvertently omitting five varieties included in the first two tables.  The following table offers a more complete grain yield performance evaluation (as percentage above or below the mean) of spring wheat varieties at the University of Minnesota last year and over the past three years (2000-2002). Wheat producers should weigh yield performance potential with disease resistance, quality performance, and agronomic characteristics best suited to their farms and growing conditions.

1 Varieties are listed from earliest to latest heading date.
2 North 2002 includes Crookston and Stephen; 2 yr. includes 2001 and 2002 Crookston and Stephen plus 2001 Roseau; 3 yr. includes 2000, 2001, and 2002 Crookston and Stephen and 2000 and 2001 Roseau.
3 Mean of Lamberton, Morris, St. Paul, and Waseca.
4 Results of the Red River Valley On Farm Yield Trials.
5 Mean is calculated using all entries in the respective trial, including experimental lines.  Therefore, the average yield of varieties within a column may be greater or less than 100%.
