E-Tour educates EPA officials
The North Dakota Grain Growers Association and the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers are sponsoring an Environmental Tour ("E-Tour") June 7 and 9 to enable scientists from the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. to participate in a hands-on production agriculture experience, so that they may better understand issues from the farmer perspective.

Participants will tour AGSCO's chemical handling facility near Grand Forks; tour Conte Luna Pasta Products (where there will also be a discussion on the importance of crop protectants to control dockage); an overnight stay with host farm families; an airplane ride with a crop duster from Northwood, ND Aero Spray; an environmental issues roundtable discussion at Michigan, ND; sprayer handling and tramline demonstration at the Greg Daws farm near Michigan; and a tour of canola fields for a better understanding of the need for crop protectant products on minor use crops.

Section 18 label info online
Section 18 emergency pesticide labels that have been granted in North Dakota, as well as 24c labels in ND since 1999, can be found on the web at:  www.ag.ndsu. nodak.edu/aginfo/pesticid/pesticid.htm. Look under "What's Hot" or click on the green button on the left side of the page entitled "Pesticide Label Search." All Labels are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view.

Minnesota Legislature approves ag measures
Minnesota lawmakers approved a $4.00 per acre farm assistance payment during the 2000 Legislative Session. Active farmers in 31 counties will be eligible for the payment. Separately, $2.65 million was allocated for a short-term state CRP. A farmer can enroll up to 160 acres of land in a state program for three years. The payment will be similar to county rents. The program will allow a producer to continue to receive federal AMTA payments on land entered into the state program. A full summary of this year's legislative session by Bruce Kleven, MN Wheat and Barley state legislative strategist, can be found in the "Prairie Grains Extra" link of the MN Wheat homepage, www.smallgrains.org
