Prairie Grains is the
official publication of
the Minnesota
Association of
Wheat Growers,
North Dakota Grain
Growers Association,
South Dakota Wheat,
Inc., and the
Minnesota Barley
Growers Association.

We are coming off what just might be the biggest year for successes and advancements in the history of the MAWG.

A brief recap: A new farm bill with guaranteed payments and more farmer friendly conservation compliance and Swampbuster provisions; formation of United Spring Wheat processors; Sales success for the Red River Farm Network, which the MAWG helped form; FCIC nonstandard classification changes; crop revenue coverage; attention to scab research; a widely respected internet web site; and participation in the development of a new plan and success strategies for the U.S. wheat industry.

A recent comment by a state official really tells the story of where the MAWG is: he said he likes to work with the wheat growers because they are not whiners. When there is a problem, they come in with a solution; they go to work and the problem gets solved.

Membership also tells the tale of how we are doing. The number of MAWG members over the past few years has been at all-time highs. We are doing the work wheat growers want and they are responding to that.

I’m excited to be part of an organization that is progressive, and has vision. This year, we will continue to do the work and provide the services wheat growers of Minnesota want and need. With your membership support and active involvement, we’ll continue to make waves.
