Soy, Wheat Groups Form Partnership in Minnesota

The Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers and the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association have teamed up to cooperatively expand services to soybean growers in northwest Minnesota, where soybean acres have increased dramatically in recent years.  As well, there is potential to enhance services and programs to southern Minnesota producers, some of whom are beginning to increase their wheat acres.

David Torgerson, executive director of the MAWG, says the two commodity organizations will maintain their separate identities, but work together using each other’s resources. With the MSGA based in North Mankato in the southern end of the state, it can be difficult to conduct soybean-related programs and activities hundreds of miles to the north.  That’s where the Red Lake Falls-based MAWG will be of assistance.

Torgerson says efforts will be focused to offer research data, promotion, educational activities and other membership services in northern Minnesota.  Wheat growers will also benefit, as the wheat organization will have access to educational information, programs, activities, and opportunities available through the MSGA.

Questions and comments can be directed to the MAWG at 1-800-242-6118, ext 17, or the Northwest MN Regional Soybean Office, at 1-218-253-4391, ext 20.
