2002 On-Farm Valley
HRS Yield Trial Results Online

Results of Red River Valley on-farm hard red spring wheat yield trials conducted in 2002 by Jochum Wiersma, University of Minnesota small grains specialist, can be found online at www.smallgrains.org .

The trials were grown at eight on-farm locations throughout northwest Minnesota.

“Once again, this year proved to be a difficult year for conducting high-quality yield trials. Wet weather caused delays in planting and problems with seedbed preparation, especially in the northern locations. Aster yellows was confirmed in some of the plots in Strathcona, and because very little is know bout this disease in wheat, the data was not included in the analysis,” notes Wiersma.

Two new and recently released cultivars were added in the 2002 trials: Briggs, released by South Dakota State University, and Hanna and Knudson, from AgriPro Wheat. Testing of Forge, Ember, and McKenzie was discontinued.
