The third annual Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers Golf Tournament will be held Friday, July 21, 1995, at the Minakwa Golf Club, located just west of the Red River Valley Shows Building, Crookston, Minn.

Tim Dufault, who serves on the MAWG board and is one of this year's tourney organizers, says the event is designed to promote fellowship among wheat growers and agribusiness members, as well as raise funds for MAWG's legislative activities.

Awards and prizes will be given to winners in low gross, low net 18-hole and 9-hole play. All players will be eligible for awards and prizes, seasoned golfer or not.

A tourney highlight will be three hole-in-one contests on designated holes during the course of tourney play. Here's what an ace could win:

  • A 600-hour lease on a Ford-New Holland Genesis 8670 tractor, sponsored by Red River Distributing, Crookston.
  • A tri-axle grain truck with Cummins L-10 engine and 22-foot long Cancade box with head lift hoist. Sponsored by Red Power International of Crookston and Bert's Trucks of East Grand Forks and Moorhead.
  • A sporty car or small pickup from the line-up of the Big Three automakers. Sponsored by Brost Chevrolet Cadillac Geo, Nelson Motors, and Salem Motors, all of Crookston.

Also at the tourney, prizes will be given for special contests on the course such as longest drive, closest to pin, and longest putt. Many door prizes will also be given away.

Further, there will be a drawing for Minnesota Vikings tickets, where only MAWG members will be eligible to win.

Participants playing 18 holes are encouraged to begin play the morning of July 21, and 9-hole players by early afternoon.

A popular option from last year's tourney will again be offered: For $5, players will be able to buy a mulligan (second chance), which may be applied to one drive off the tee box. The mulligan cannot be used on a hole-in-one tee-off drive.

Refreshments will be served throughout the tourney. A cash breakfast and cash lunch will be available. A barbecue will follow the tourney at 6 p.m. in the clubhouse, where awards and prizes will be given.

Cost for golfing and the evening barbecue is $30 per person. If you want to attend just the barbecue, the cost is $15.

Tourney play is limited; thus, reserve a spot early by mailing in the registration form, in this issue of the Wheat Report, along with a check made payable to the MAWG. No registrations by mail will be accepted in the MAWG office after July 17.

For more tourney information, call Tracy at the MAWG office in Red Lake Falls, 1-800-242-6118.
