Prairie Grains is the
official publication of
the Minnesota
Association of
Wheat Growers,
North Dakota Grain
Growers Association,
South Dakota Wheat,
Inc., and the
Minnesota Barley
Growers Association.

We, consumers in the U.S., are our own biggest customer of grain, and the Wheat Foods Council exists to promote and cultivate that market, says Margie Martin, past WFC chair with the North Dakota Wheat Commission.

The WFC targets the media and health and nutrition professionals to carry its message. Last year, the American Heart Assn. endorsed the WFC, which will widen its credibility. WFC activities last year ranged from refuting an inaccurate New York Times article on grains (the newspaper did issue a retraction), to boosting the profile of grains in the school lunch program. Another program designed to acquaint people with grain foods helped increase the sale of bread products by 12 percent.
