| United Spring Wheat Processors will outline its business strategy to develop a frozen dough and frozen partially-baked products cooperative, at the 1997 Ag Horizons Conference Dec. 1-3, 1997, at the Ramkota River Centre, Pierre, SD. The potential for value-added ag production will also be the topic of S.D. Gov. William J. Janklow's address to conference participants. Opportunities for sunflower processing will be highlighted by former National Sunflower Association marketing director Jay Hesley, now an export consultant.
Dr. Duane Beck, Dakota Lakes Research Farm, will discuss alternative crop rotations, and Clair Stymiest, SDSU extension specialist, will discuss winter soil temperatures and at what point "winter kill" can be expected. Dr. Gregg Carlson, SDSU Plant Science Department, will talk about how Gobal Positioning Systems can be used in agriculture.
Marketing consultant Mark Jens from Agri-Mark, Fargo, will discuss grain market trends. Among other topics to be addressed during the three-day conference are changes in crop insurance, formation of closed cooperatives, estate planning under the new tax laws, and new wheat varieties.
A trade show featuring products and services available to assist producers is planned. A free pasta dinner is set for December 2, followed by entertainment by the Great Pretenders.
