The North Dakota Grain Growers Association annual convention will be held on Dec. 10, 1997 in Bismarck, ND at the Radisson Inn. This year's theme is "Breakthroughs in Education and Innovation for 1998."

Registration will begin at 8:00 am with a continental breakfast served until 9:15 am. Dan Manternach of ProFarmer will be the keynote speaker.

Manternach will present a two and a half hour presentation on marketing; topics covered include marketing strategies for feed grains and oilseeds with a focus on wheat and barley. Manternach will also touch on how the markets are affected by the livestock industry. Providing long-term goal setting tips for farming operations, strategic planning to reach long-term goals and tactical planning to execute strategic objectives will round out Manternach's presentation.

"In a year that has been cruel from beginning to end with an ever fluctuating market, this is a session you cannot afford to miss," says Lance Gaebe, executive director of the NDGGA.

The noon luncheon will feature a pasta buffet. After lunch guest speaker Dave Pearce will speak on the "Art of Agriculture." Dave has a very diverse background which includes experiencing agriculture in foreign countries. After lunch, the election of NDGGA board members will be held for the 1998 term. The NDGGA annual meeting will also be held and resolutions will be approved for the coming year.

The day will conclude with presentations by industry professionals. "Innovations in Industry" is a new segment added to this year's convention to keep you up to speed on new products and trends in industry. This looks to be a very exciting opportunity to see what the future holds.

If time allows, come a day early to take in the 1st Annual N.D. Research Summit, hosted by the NDGGA, the North Dakota Barley Council and the North Dakota Wheat Commission. This summit will provide a forum to discuss the research and issues that are being addressed in the wheat and barley industries.

The NDWC is also sponsoring a banquet on December 9 with guest speaker Alan Tracy, President of U.S. Wheat Associates. The NDWC banquet is $20 a ticket payable to the NDWC.

Convention registration is free to NDGGA members. Cost for non-members is $30. Cost for meals for all convention participants is $5 for breakfast and $10 for the luncheon, payable to NDGGA. The Research Summit is free to all producers. To register call 1-800-932-8822. For the sake of preparation we would appreciate pre-registration for meal counts. Deadline for pre-registration is December 5, 1997. Hotel reservations can be made by calling (701) 258-7700. Room rates are $51 for a single and $61 for a double until November 25.
